Set deep in the heart of South Wairarapa dairy country, this new home is a response to the land on which it sits and the farming clients who live here. Reminiscent of dairy sheds and traditional rural materiality this house belongs to its surroundings.
A new urban home on a challenging section led to a unique response. Long and thin, the building allows for an abundance of light. The simple, elegant form of the building sits easily in this small farming town and speaks to the owners rural roots.
A country home in town. This design references the rural roots of the clients and the surrounding Wairarapa countryside. The passive solar design ensures the house is warm and sunny in winter with areas to escape from the heat of summer.
An exploration in light and texture. The roof of the house floats over the hand hewn concrete walls and allows the light to filter through the home. The large windows embrace the view while the home is tucked gently into the hillside.
